Kavadarci has 41,852 residents (as of 1991) and covers 1.132 sq. km, and is situated 280 meters above the sea level. It is situated on the both sides of the river Luda Mara.

The town is by far most famous for its vineyards and production of quality wines. After all, it is Macedonia's main wine producing center. Tikvesh wines, named after the area around Kavadarci, are well known internationally for their unique taste and high quality.

Besides wine, Kavadarci is also known for its timber and tobacco production.

Historically, the area around Kavadarci (more specifically, in the village of Vatasha) is known for a monument honoring young Macedonians executed by the Bulgarian occupation forces during World War II.
